We will notify you by email or phone if your chosen accommodation or tour is not available. We will do our best to suggest alternative options or dates but you are under no obligation if your original booking item is not available.

When is peak season?

June – October is the peak holiday season in Far North Queensland. It is highly recommend to book accommodation and tours well in advance to avoid disappointment.

When is the best time of year to visit?

The best time of year to visit depends upon what type of holiday you are planning. In the tropics there is typically only two variations - the wet season or the dry season. The rain in the wet season for the most part falls in the later afternoon to overnight and the wet season generally extends from December to April. Weather patterns are unpredictable though because Cairns had its driest April weather ever since records began, in April 2008. December to March can actually be a good time to visit the Great Barrier Reef (even though it is the wet season) because the water temperature is nice and warm and because the rain quite often doesn't fall during the day, most of the day tours are not affected by it. The weather is humid during the day in the wet season but many people are aware of this and take in plenty of cold drinks, swims and relax - exactly what one should be doing on holidays!

The dry season still has rain but just less of it. The dry season tends to be from May to November but again, you can‘t always rely on forecasts and averages. Many people from the southern half of Australia come to Cairns between May to November because it is still around 27 degrees on average during the day. Many people also take holidays to Cairns at that time of year too because it is the only time of year you can take an overland 4WD tour to Cape York.

What is the story with jelly fish / marine stingers?

Marine stingers, particularly the Box Jellyfish, and irukandji, inhabit the tropical waters around Cairns and far north Queensland during the warmer months from November to May. They're non-aggressive, but if you bump against them, they will release their toxic cells in defence.

Many of the beaches around Cairns have special floating 'stinger net' enclosures, giving you a safe place to swim. Use them! Snorkelling and diving at the Great Barrier Reef is 99.9% safe from stingers all year round, but most reef tour operators still offer stinger suits to their passengers all year round, as a “duty of care” to guard against the small risk of encountering a stinger at the reef. It is up to you if you want to use a stinger suit while at the Great Barrier Reef but most locals never do.

Can I specify my room preferences?

The hotel staff will do their best to accommodate special requests, but we cannot guarantee that your requests will be granted unless we are specifically told by the hotel manager we can guarantee it.

Can I change my reservation?

As long as you give us enough notice and depending on the availability, there will be no problems for us to change your reservation. If there is a price increase between your old and new reservation request, we will give you that information prior to changing your reservation. If you have booked something at a sale price it may not be available on different dates or if you re-book outside of the sale period - the sale item you've purchased may be non-refundable, so please be aware of this when making a booking.

What if I need to cancel my reservation?

As long as you give enough notice there should be no problems with cancelling your booking however the exact amount of any cancellation fee will depend on the specific tour or accommodation. We will do our best to minimise any cancellation fees and in some instances you may be able to use the cancellation fee as credit toward the same tour or hotel if you re-book within 12 months of the original booking.

What is the currency?

All quotes and rates on our websites are in AUD $

Are the room rates on your site per person or per room per night?

The quoted room rate is per room per night. The rate will reflect the number of persons you entered on your enquiry form.

What age do the children's rates apply to?

The children's rates generally apply between the ages of 4-14 yrs; however in some instances children's rates may start from 2yrs up to 17yrs. Please check in the pricing area of each tour or hotel description to clarify.

Am I eligible for the family rate?

Families of 2 adults and 2 children between the ages of 4 –14 yrs are eligible for the family rate only. If there are more than 2 children in one family between the ages of 4 –14 years then an extra child rate must be added to the overall family rate to get the total price.
